SP Energy Networks — connection process
Most of Central Belt Scotland — Edinburgh, Glasgow, Falkirk, Fife, Lothians, Lanarkshire
SP Energy Networks (formerly Scottish Power Distribution) is the DNO for the majority of central Scotland. They cover the bulk of our service area — Edinburgh, Glasgow, Falkirk, Fife, the Lothians and most of Lanarkshire.
G98 vs G99 — which applies?
- G98 (notification only): Single inverter ≤ 16A per phase (~3.68kW single-phase). Notify within 28 days of commissioning — no pre-approval needed.
- G99 (pre-approval): Anything larger. Connection offer issued first, then install, then commissioning. Connection offers typically issued in 6-12 weeks for standard sites; complex sites (capacity-constrained) can take 4-6 months.
Typical SP Energy Networks timeline
- Submit G99 application with single-line diagram + capacity request
- SP Energy Networks accepts application + acknowledges
- Connection offer issued (connection offers typically issued in 6-12 weeks for standard sites; complex sites (capacity-constrained) can take 4-6 months.)
