SigenStor Sizes: How Many Modules?

SigenStor battery sizes explained: 6.02 and 9.04 kWh modules, one to six per controller, and how to pick the right number from your evening use and tariff.

Quick answer

The SigenStor is built from battery modules of 6.02 kWh or 9.04 kWh, and a single controller takes one to six of them — so a tower runs from about 6 kWh to about 54 kWh, and larger sites run several towers in parallel. Most Scottish homes we fit land on one or two modules. The right number comes from your evening usage and your tariff, not from the size of your roof. If you are still choosing between manufacturers, the SigenStor and the Powerwall 3 side by side compares how each one is sized; for what a stack costs fitted and how to check an installer’s certification, see our Sigenergy installer page for Scotland.

The sizing ladder

Modules6.02 kWh modules9.04 kWh modules
16.02 kWh9.04 kWh
212.04 kWh18.08 kWh
318.06 kWh27.12 kWh
424.08 kWh36.16 kWh
636.12 kWh54.24 kWh

Those are the figures Sigenergy publishes on its SigenStor specifications page, read on 25 September 2026. If a quote you are comparing shows 5.2 kWh or 8.0 kWh modules, it is quoting an earlier generation — worth a question rather than an assumption.

How to pick your rung

Start with the evening. Add up your electricity use from 16:00 to midnight on a normal weekday from your smart meter data. That is what a battery can move for you on a flat tariff, and for a typical 3,500 kWh-a-year home it is about 3.8 kWh — one 6.02 kWh module, with headroom.

Then look at the tariff. On a time-of-use tariff the grid fills the battery cheaply overnight, so capacity above your evening need starts to earn: on Octopus Flux a battery charged at the off-peak rate and discharged in the 16:00–19:00 peak clears a margin on every kWh it moves. That is usually what takes a household from one module to two.

Then check winter. In Scotland the panels cannot refill storage between November and February — PVGIS puts a south-facing 4 kWp array near Livingston at about 2.4 kWh a day in December against 15 kWh in May. Capacity bought to catch winter solar sits empty; capacity bought to shift cheap grid energy does not.

Our solar battery size calculator runs exactly that method and rounds the answer to a real SigenStor build.

What the modules do not tell you

Power, not just capacity. The inverter sets how fast the system charges and discharges: 3–12 kW single-phase, 5–30 kW three-phase. Six modules behind a small inverter still cannot empty into a three-hour peak.

Usable versus nominal. Sigenergy publishes 100% depth of discharge, so the module figure is the figure you can draw. Compare that carefully with any battery quoted at a nominal capacity.

Physical space. The tower is rated IP66 and can stand on the floor or hang on a wall, but the footprint and cable runs are decided by the configuration and the room — that is a survey question, and the full specification sits on our SigenStor specifications page.

Frequently asked questions

What sizes does the SigenStor battery come in? +

Sigenergy publishes modules of 6.02 kWh and 9.04 kWh, with one to six modules per controller — so about 6 kWh to 54 kWh in a single tower, and multiple towers in parallel for commercial sites.

How many SigenStor modules do I need? +

For a typical 3,500 kWh-a-year home on a flat tariff, one 6.02 kWh module covers the evening. A time-of-use tariff, an EV or a heat pump usually justifies a second module, because the grid can fill capacity your panels cannot.

Can I add SigenStor modules later? +

Yes, up to six per controller. Each battery pack has its own DC-DC optimiser, which is what lets packs of different ages and states of health work together, so a module added later does not have to match the originals.
