For most domestic properties, no — solar PV is permitted development under Scottish planning rules. Exceptions apply for listed buildings, conservation areas (common in Edinburgh New Town and Linlithgow), and some new-build developer-controlled estates. We run pre-app checks on every job.

Typical domestic install is 1-2 days on site, with the full process (survey, design, DNO notification, install, commissioning, MCS certificate) running 2-4 weeks from order. Commercial installs vary by size; we publish a per-project timeline at survey.

Our JA Solar all-black panels carry a 30-year linear performance warranty and 25-year product warranty. EcoFlow PowerOcean inverters: 10 years standard. Ecoaim provides a 5-year workmanship warranty covering all install labour and weatherproofing.

Payback periods in our service area typically run 7-9 years for solar-only, 8-11 years with battery. Faster paybacks come from high-export tariffs (Octopus Flux, SEG rates) and high daytime self-consumption.

Yes — AC-coupled batteries retrofit cleanly onto any existing solar install. We carry out a free electrical compatibility check and DNO notification. Typical retrofit time on site: 1 day.

For typical 4-bed homes in our service area, 5-10 kWh covers evening loads. With Octopus Flux tariff arbitrage, 10-13 kWh maximises return. Our battery sizing tool models your usage profile against tariff windows.

Only batteries with EPS (Emergency Power Supply) function provide backup. Tesla Powerwall 3 and Sigenergy have built-in EPS; some EcoFlow variants do too. We confirm backup capability per system at quote.

The OZEV EV chargepoint grant remains available for renters, flat-owners and landlords. The Workplace Charging Scheme offers £500 per socket up to 40 sockets. Both are subject to current rules — we confirm eligibility before install.

Yes — we install AC and DC commercial chargers up to 360kW, including Pelican, AE Auto and partner brands. We handle DNO G99 applications, half-hourly metering, and back-office tariff integration.

Home Energy Scotland offers a grant of up to £7,500 (£9,000 for rural and island homes) for renewable heat — air, ground or water source heat pumps, biomass and heat network connections — combined with an interest-free loan of up to £7,500 on the same measure. Insulation is funded separately: up to £7,500 grant and £2,500 loan for solid wall, and £1,500 grant and £500 loan for loft, cavity and underfloor. The loan is 0% interest but carries a 1.5% administration fee capped at £150 per application. We handle the application and provide quotes that meet HES criteria.

Not from Home Energy Scotland. HES withdrew grant and interest-free loan funding for domestic solar PV and battery storage on 6 June 2024 and it has not been reinstated, so any offer of an HES loan for panels or a battery is out of date. What does still apply: 0% VAT on qualifying domestic installations until 31 March 2027, Smart Export Guarantee payments for the electricity you export, and the HES grant and loan for the heat pump element if your project includes one. Solar thermal and hybrid solar PV-T water heating remain loan-eligible up to £5,000 — a standard PV array does not qualify. Lender finance through Ideal4Finance (FRN 703401) is also available subject to status, but that is commercial credit, not a government scheme.

Our core engineering and customer-service team is in-house in Livingston. For specialist roles like scaffolding and certain roofing trades we use vetted trade partners working to our MCS-certified specification. Every install is signed off by an Ecoaim engineer before commissioning and the warranty is held by Ecoaim direct.
