Common questions
Who is eligible for the HES loan? +
Any homeowner in Scotland whose property will be the primary residence. Income-based caps do not apply for the loan (unlike ECO4). Landlords have a separate scheme.
How long does HES loan approval take? +
Typically 4-8 weeks from full application to approval. We handle the paperwork on your behalf and provide MCS-compliant quotes that meet HES criteria.
Do I have to repay if I move house? +
Yes — the loan is to the homeowner, not the property. Most borrowers repay over the agreed term regardless.
Can I combine HES loan with the HES grant? +
Yes — for heat pumps and some packages, the grant and loan stack for up to £24,500 of combined support.
Is the loan really interest-free? +
Yes — 0% APR. There is a small admin fee (around £150) and you only pay back the principal.
